(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full-fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether or not it’s worth your time/money.)
ReversEstory is one of those weird hidden games that kind of come out of nowhere on the App Store. ReversEstory is a 2D roguelike shooter by indie developer, Kouki Nakao. Unfortunately, I have no clue what the story is about and figuring out how to actually play the game was a chore in itself. Most of these issues were just due to it being lost in translation. That doesn’t mean that ReversEstory isn’t fun! Once I got the hang of things, the game started really opening up. You teleport through randomly generated ruins, eliminating enemies and collecting new gear and treasure. The further you go, the bigger the rewards. If you die, you lose everything except for “tears”. These can be used to purchase extra hearts “life enhancers” before future runs. ReversEstory may be perfect. The difficulty and confusion will definitely be a deal breaker for some. But, if you stick with it long enough, ReversEstory can be a cool little roguelike!
ReversEstory is also in this week’s SNAPP Roundup.
