(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time/money.)
Pix-zilla: King of Monsters is an 8bit retro-style arcade shooter by the indie team at Twisted Fingers. You play as a giant robot that has been created by a “mad professor” to corrupt and destroy Techno City. The game plays (kind of) like a side scroller shmup (shoot em’ up), except it’s a lot slower. Your character auto-walks forward as traffic and enemies come at you from the right hand side of the screen. The controls are fairly simple with just tapping on the left side of the screen to jump and right side to shoot. You can shoot down just about anything that moves. Police, passenger cars, the army, and whatever else gets in your way. There’s some mild upgrading that you can do to your robot with the coins that you collect, but it takes quite a bit of grinding. I also wish the shooting was a little faster like traditional shmups. I found myself struggling to get through a lot of levels due to the firing being so slow. Pix-Zilla definitely isn’t perfect, but it’s still a decent little premium title.
