R-Type Dimensions EX iOS SNAPP REVIEW!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time/money.)

R-Type 1 and 2 have been on just about every platform since it was originally released in 1987 by Irem. DotEmu were the last ones to put the games on mobile and did a fantastic job with it. Well, now we have R-Type Dimensions EX by Tozia Games and I really think this is the definitive version of the two games. You have so many options this time around. There’s the original 2D pixel art version of the game in all its glory, then a completely revamped 3D version. What’s really cool is that you can change between the two versions on the fly. Even the background music changes from the updated, to the old chiptune soundtrack of the original. Also, an Infinite Mode has been added so you can play through the game no matter how many lives you lose. Tozia did an excellent job with this port. The controls are smooth and have a ton of options. If you haven’t played these classics yet or haven’t played them in awhile, R-Type Dimensions EX is a steal at this price.

R-Type Dimensions EX is also in this week’s iOS Roundup!
