REKT! High Octane Stunts SWITCH REVIEW!

Alright. It’s no secret that I love me some racing games. Well, any game with vehicles in them. So, I was quick to smash that download button when I saw this game release on the eShop.

REKT! High Octane Racing recently released on the eShop by Little Chicken Game Company under the big QubicGames publishing umbrella. Now, REKT! technically isn’t a racing title, but it does have cars in it! LOTS of them! I guess you could say that the game is kind of a cross between skateboarding and driving.

There are several objectives in REKT!, but it’s a high-score chaser at its core. You have 60 seconds to score as high as possible. So, it’s all about pulling off big stunts and huge combos. You can basically do whatever you want as long as you land on your wheels at the end of the trick. If you land any other way and you are “REKT!” and lose everything.

The game is all about risk vs. reward. You earn points for tricks, but the points don’t really start adding up until you start stringing tricks together. After you land, you get a few seconds to line yourself up and pull off another trick. If your too slow, your points are “BANKED”. So, you can go the safe route and bank the points you’ve earned or let it all ride and try another trick and hope you don’t crash.

There’s also a mission system in the game. This is how you earn coins. Missions are usually pretty simple tasks like “do x amount of backflips” and there are 120 missions that are unique to each arena. You can use your coins to unlock arenas, upgrade your vehicles, and use the “spin and win” wheel. The mission system is actually the most important part of the game in my opinion. The game can be played without it, but you aren’t going to get very far.

My favorite part of REKT! is how much content is packed into this little 156 MB game. There are 4 huge arenas with tons of stuff to do in each one. I spent hours on these arenas and still find new tricks to do. Then there’s the vehicles. There are over 50 of them to unlock and customize. You can upgrade the speed, flip, boost, and grip to your liking. You can also change up wheels, spoilers, and stickers. There’s even leaderboards if that’s your thing.

I played REKT! when it first launched on iOS and loved it, but the Switch version is so much better. The controls are easy to use with simple flicks of the joystick and button presses. And the visuals are absolutely beautiful with the whole game running at 60fps. I did experience a few crashes to where I had to reset the game, but it was pretty rare. Regardless, this game was a blasty-blast to play. I spent hours upon hours playing by myself. (The game does have 4 player local multiplayer.) Even if you’re not a fan of racing games, REKT! High Octane Stunts is still a whole lot of flipping fun and is definitely worth the price.

Fast paced fun with a lot to unlock!
