(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Aces of the Luftwaffe Squadron is an action packed vertical SHMUP (shoot em’ up) that was recently released on the App Store by the team at HandyGames. The game is set after WWII when a secret German commando unit took their chance to strike back and invade the United States. You play as a team of four fighter pilots destined to ruin the German’s plans. I actually played the hell out of this game on the Nintendo Switch when it originally released on the eShop. So, I was excited to see it finally come to mobile. It’s a great story with fully voiced characters with a ton of action. I was a bit worried about the controls because AotLS has a pretty wide playing field. Luckily, there are several control options in the game. I ended up using the standard touch controls on my iPhone and the v-stick when playing on the iPad. I’m having a blasty blast replaying the game all over again. The pixel art visuals are absolutely beautiful and the game runs smoothly even when there’s a ton of stuff going on. Aces of the Luftwaffe Squadron also comes with the new DLC that puts you on the German’s side. So, it’s a really good bargain getting the whole package for this price. If you’re a fan of vertical shooters or action games, Aces of the Luftwaffe Squadron is definitely worth picking up.
