(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Double Dodgers is a unique high-score chaser that was released last week on the App Store by indie developer, Pelican Party. It’s a game that pretty much resembles the real world out there. Double Dodgers is an endless “walker” where you see through the eyes of the person walking. You need to swipe left and right to dodge obstacles in the way. Seems easy enough right? Well, while you’re walking, you’re also playing a side scrolling dungeon crawler on your character’s phone. So, you have to pay attention to where you’re walking AND play the actual game. If you mess up once, it’s game over. Double Dodgers is a hilarious concept and can get frustrating really quick. Especially when you start getting texts and notifications on your virtual phone. My only issue is that there’s no leaderboards. GameCenter has never really been a big deal for me in games, but if you’re going to have a high-score chaser, you need some kind of leaderboards and achievements. You can unlock different skins for your smartphone, but that only goes so far. Regardless, Double Dodgers is a fun little game that’s worth trying out just for the unique experience. Who knows. Maybe we’ll see GameCenter added later on in an update.
