(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Don Zombie is a side scrolling action game that recently released on the App Store by developer No Six Five. The story is similar to most zombie games. An infection has taken over and infested every city with the undead. It’s up to you, the formal Colonel Don to rid the world of this zombie menace. As far as the game goes, Don Zombie is actually a fun little side scroller. You’re basically going through each level shooting down waves of zombies. The campaign is your standard zombie game. That’s not actually a bad thing though! The on-screen controls work well and there’s quite a few levels. What I really like in this game are the unique visuals. I’m not sure what it’s called, but it almost resembles cardboard cutouts or watercolors. Regardless, I dig them. My only real issue with Don Zombie is that it’s a bit heavy on the F2P (free to play) side. There’s the usual dual currency, random loot chests locked behind timers, etc. Besides that, I’ve been having a lot of fun with this game so far. There are tons of weapons to unlock and upgrade, big boss fights, and even an Arena Mode. Don Zombie may look like just another zombie game, but there’s something charming about it that makes it worth checking out.
Don Zombie is also in this week’s iOS Roundup!
