(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
I always love running across quirky little games on the App Store. The Last Run is a unique game that was recently released on the App Store by indie developer Collettivo Marzen. The Last Run is a 2D pixel art platformer with a little twist. Levels are randomly generated and ridiculously tough at times. You get a quick glimpse of the map before you start and then it’s up to you to figure out how to find the exit. If that wasn’t difficult enough, as you progress through the map, the game starts to annoy you by filling the screen with quotes and sayings. You’ll be in the middle of a jump and all of the sudden “DINNER IS READY! YOU SHOULD TURN OFF THAT THING! STOP PLAYING!” and other random things start filling up the screen and shaking. Before you know it, the entire screen is covered in text while you’re trying to make it to an exit that you have no clue where it’s at. This game definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. I highly recommend using an MFI controller though. The game has on-screen controls, but is almost impossible to play with them. The Last Run is a unique little game that does its best to piss you off. Sure, it’s not perfect. I wish that the controls were better and there’s coins that you collect, but nothing to purchase. Regardless, it’s worth checking out.
