(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Sandship: The Last Engineer is the newest game by the team at Rockbite. I was a huge fan of Deep Town, so I was excited to check this one out when it released on the App Store. Sandship is a sci-fi factory management game where you control the last remaining sandship; a giant mega-factory which roams across the deserts. There’s actually a full story with a charming cast of characters in Sandship, but the meat & potatoes is the crafting/factory management. Everything is run via conveyor belts. You’ll need to connect machines in the correct order to produce whatever you’re making. Controls are done with simple taps and drags across the screen. Factories can get pretty big, so the pinch/zoom feature comes in handy on smaller devices. Sandship is one of those games where there is so much going on that it almost feels too overwhelming at first. There’s the main story, side quests, contracts, researching new techniques and resources, and a ton more. The tutorial does a great job easing you in, but trial & error played a huge role for me. Sandship is an absolutely beautiful game with tons of depth. Every single item has its own stats, recipe, and backstory. The game is F2P, so there’s some time elements and multiple currencies, but everything feels really fair. If you’re a fan of management sims, Sandship is definitely worth checking out.
