Battle Wings iOS SNAPP REVIEW!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Battle Wings is an arcade-ish flight combat game that recently released on the App Store by developer Idea Spoon. The story goes that “Air Pirates” have become a problem after WWI due to the Great Depression hitting the world. You run a mercenary company to help protect customers from them. I’ve got to say that I was honestly shocked with this game. It’s a lot deeper and more technical than I expected. Within each mission, you’re in control of your airship AND your fighter jets. So, you have to fly the airship to wherever you need to get to, then switch over to your fighter jet, complete your mission, and make it back to the airship for repairs/fuel/etc. There’s a lot going on during each mission, but I ended up getting the hang of it after a couple missions. In between levels, you can upgrade just about everything on both ships including purchasing additional fighters. I’ve been really enjoying the hell out of Battle Wings so far. It has these unique “basic” looking visuals that I find charming for some reason. And the v-stick/button controls work well within the game. I will say that although playing on the iPhone works just fine, everything just seems too small on the battlefield. Maybe I’m just getting too old, but I highly recommend playing on the iPad if possible. Either way, Battle Wings is definitely worth checking out.

  1. Dear sir.

I am Kim Jae-Yong, the developer of this game.

As you said, I am a developer, running a small studio called Idea Spoon.
    I’m from Korea.
    But it’s okay, it’s no-nuke side. 🙂

Thank you very much for your great review.
I spent 5 years and 2 months alone for this game.
Yeah. I’m not that skilled programmer. 🙂
I can’t say it was an easy experience.
I made it because I thought, it’s my last chance in my poor life.
It’s not much, but I can say that I did my best.

I made this because I love “Wings of Fury” so much.
When I was a kid, I was fell in love with the great game.
As a big fan of Wings of Fury, I would like to thank Steve Waldo for his inspiration for creating a great game. Of course, his name is on the top of the credit.

Some ideas about airships are came from the animation Castle in the Sky.

Perhaps this is the first official review about my game.
For the first time, I saw what other people thought about my game.

I know the game I made is not a big game, but your review made me unable to hold back my tears.

As a matter of fact, I don’t know what I’m talking.
Please forgive me for being so excited after reading your review.
Thank you for such a beautiful review.

    ps.
If you feel hard to see small things, I recommend try Camera button.
My eyes are not so good either.
But I had to show wide view of the battle field.
    So I made the button.
I hope that button can help.

Thank you so much again Sir.
