I absolutely love games that stray from what’s popular at the moment. Take Renal Summer by tokoronyori. You play as a sick dog’s kidney. The dog is in kidney failure and your job is to get rid of the toxins and earn kidney experience. The game plays almost like a mashup between a matching game and a clicker. You can get rid of toxins by mindlessly tapping on them on the screen or by matching colors which makes things a lot easier. What’s cool is that you can watch the dog and the old man in the game live their lives as you’re clicking away. The in-game clock is set to your device’s clock, so playing at night can get a bit boring watching them sleep. But, they are both up at 5am and don’t go to bed until 10pm, so there’s plenty of time to watch them go for walks or sit and read the newspaper. Renal Summer is a unique game that can be calming and sad at the same time. It’s an interesting game that makes you think about the life and death of your pets. If you’re looking for something a little different, definitely give Renal Summer a shot.
