Unicorns on Unicycles is a side-scrolling fighting game by Weyrd Works that was recently released on the App Store under the Rogue Games publishing umbrella. You play as a unicorn knight in a unicorn world that’s been betrayed by a unicorn wizard and is looking for it’s unicorn revenge. Did I mention that there are lots of unicorns in this game? Anyway, the game is played out over 30 matches. Fights are a style of jousting with their unicorn horns. With every character on unicycles, it’s all about leaning toward your opponent and spearing them at the right time. I honestly thought that this mechanic would have gotten stale after a few matches, but the developer does an excellent job keeping things different and fresh with each opponent you’re up against. I’m really having a lot of fun with UonU so far. The characters are charming, the art is absolutely beautiful, and the physics keeps things wonky and fun. Besides the 30-ish levels in the Adventure Mode, there’s also a Versus Mode where you can play against a friend or the AI. I would’ve liked to have seen a couple more extras in the game, but that’s honestly nitpicking. If you’re looking for a solid fighting-style game with tons of polish, Unicorns on Unicycles is definitely worth the 4 bucks! 🦄
