(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Afterplace is a top-down action-adventure game by Evan Kice that was released last month on the App Store. This is one of those games that are hard to describe. You’re basically set in this huge open world and you have to figure out for yourself what is going on by exploring the land. It’s a cool concept because everyone will have a somewhat different experience. As you wander around the world, you’ll find hidden caves, labyrinths, dungeons, and plenty of monsters. Controls were built for mobile, so everything can be done by simply tapping or moving your thumb. I will say at first I felt a bit lost with the game. I felt like I was just randomly walking around. But, as you start talking to people and finding new areas, Afterplace starts to really grow on you. There’s a real sense of exploration that makes you feel like you are really uncovering a mystery. That’s also due to the witty writing and entertaining story. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just say that I’ve really been enjoying myself with Afterplace so far. If you’re a fan of action-adventure games, definitely pick this gem up.
