(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Bullet Chess is an arcade Chess-like game that was recently released on the App Store by indie developer Evgeny Grishakov. Now, I have no clue how to play Chess, but luckily the game only loosely follows the real thing. The object is to basically kill the Queen in each level. This can be done by just shooting everything on the board or playing things a little more strategically and going right for the Queen. With a 3-star system, you are scored on how many moves you make. Bullet Chess is a really cool game that lacks a bit of content. The 2D visuals are gorgeous and the overall theme is top notch. There’s just not much else to the game besides new levels with differently placed pieces. Things do get more difficult as you progress, but it’s still the same old thing after a while. The game really needs something like a shop with multiple weapons and some boss fights. Which is weird because the App Store description says it has all of this! Who knows? Maybe it’s planned for the future or something. Either way, Bullet Chess is definitely worth checking out. It’s a good game with the possibility of being great if it had a few additions.
