(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Peglin is a unique pixel art roguelike by Red Nexus Games that was recently released on the App Store. You play as a little goblin named Peglin as you make your way through forests, fortresses, and caves to try and defeat the dragons. At least, that’s what I think is going on. The story is pretty vague in this game. What makes Peglin fun is its gameplay though. Similar to games like Peggle, you shoot your “orb” below and try to charge it up as much as possible by bouncing off of pegs. The more your orb is charged, the stronger your attacks are. As you progress, you’ll earn coins to purchase and upgrade new stones/orbs and even unlock new abilities. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Peglin so far. Each run feels different than the last and there is always something new to find each time you play. I will say that the game is pretty small when playing on a phone. It’s playable, but I’d suggest playing on a tablet/iPad if possible. My only other issue is that once you die, that’s it. You have to start a new game. Nothing carries over. Regardless, if you’re a fan of roguelikes and are in for a challenge, Peglin is definitely worth checking out.
