GalacDrive is a vertical SHMUP-style flying game that was recently released on the App Store by SUP3R87 Games. The game is high-score chaser and a mixture of asteroid dodging and shooting as you try and last as long as possible before eventually getting killed. The controls are fairly simple. You tap on the L/R sides of the screen to move your craft left and right while tapping the upper/middle of the screen uses your power-ups. Each run will have you dodging asteroids until you meet up with a boss. Each boss has their own shooting styles and patterns to keep things fresh. As you progress, you’ll unlock new power-ups and Arena Mode. I’ve been having a lot of fun with GalacDrive so far. The chunky pixel art is well done with some cool looking bosses and the soundtrack is really catchy. My only real issue is that the leaderboards are on their own server. I would’ve rather seen the leaderboards on GameCenter where I can compete against my friends rather than creating an account for the game. Other than that, GalacDrive is a solid game! If you’re a fan of SHMUPS or fast paced action games, this one is definitely worth picking up.
