(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Wasteland Story is a side scrolling zombie survival RPG that was recently released on the App Store by Lunarite Studio. The game has you taking control of a lone survivor in a post apocalyptic wasteland as you try and figure out a way to save what’s left of mankind. Wasteland Story is one of those games that just keeps getting deeper and deeper the more you dig into it. I was originally expecting a mediocre side scroller with some light RPG mechanics. But WS is so much more than that. As you wander the wastelands, you can pretty much do what you want. There are tons of missions/side missions to complete, random encounters, boss fights, etc. Surviving is the toughest part of this game. Outside of the usual baddies, you’ve got to keep an eye on your hunger/thirst, the dynamic weather, and radioactivity. Wasteland Story has a pretty deep upgrade system too. As you progress, you’ll be able to upgrade tons of perks, abilities, and attributes. There’s a lot to figure out and it’s honestly a bit overwhelming at first. It took me a good hour or so before I felt pretty comfortable with everything. Wasteland Story is fun, but far from perfect. The game can be confusing for some people, the controls are a bit stiff and the UI is fairly clunky. Regardless, the game has a lot to offer and is worth checking out if you’re into survival games or RPGs.
