Just when I thought that I was done with these survival-style games. Pizza Hero pulls me back in! Pizza Hero is a shmup-style roguelike that was recently released on the App Store by Astro Hound Studios. You play as a slice of pizza and its dog companion as they take on an onslaught of enemies and try to save the world. The gameplay itself is similar to most of the swarm survivor games out there. You use the single joystick to move around as your pizza auto-shoots at enemies. As you progress through the level, you’ll pick new weapons and upgrades to help you make it through. Even though it’s pretty standard gameplay, I can’t stop playing Pizza Hero. First off, the levels are randomly generated. So, each run plays out differently from the last. Second, I absolutely love the whole pizza theme. Every upgrade is named after a different pizza topping and for some weird reason that just makes me happy. Even if you aren’t a fan of the theme, there’s still a lot to love about Pizza Hero. There are a bunch of different toppings to unlock, recipe evolutions to figure out, permanent buffs to upgrade, and a lot more. If you’re a fan of these survival games, Pizza Hero is one of the better ones out there. I highly recommend checking it out!
