Bibots is a top-down roguelike shooter developed by Square Squid and recently released on the App Store under the Plug In Digital umbrella. You play as an explorer named Tayar who has been chosen to save the world from the evil Maghamir. The story itself isn’t much, but there’s enough of it to feel like there is an actual purpose to what you’re doing. Gameplay-wise, you spend a lot of time running around dark temples and shooting down anything that moves. The controls are pretty smooth with only 2 buttons to deal with outside of the dual sticks. As you make your way through a run, you will earn experience and unlock new skills. I thought that this part was pretty cool. You can choose from building up one of three different styles of fighter. A Survivalist, Scientist, or Soldier. Each style has their own unique pros and cons. There are also five different Bibots that you can choose from with their own stats. So, there is quite a bit of tinkering to find what’s the best play style for you. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Bibots so far. There’s quite a bit to unlock and upgrade during each run. Unfortunately, in true roguelike fashion, you lose all of that once you die. Luckily, you keep your experience that you’ve earned for whatever Bibot that you use. This will eventually unlock new main and secondary attacks as your Bibot levels up. All and all, Bibots is a pretty solid dual stick shooter. There’s a decent amount to unlock and nothing is hidden behind any paywalls or IAPs. If you’re a fan of roguelikes or shooters, Bibots is well worth the few bucks.
