(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Cosmic Survival is a survival-style shooter that was recently released on the App Store by developer Bohan Cheng. You play as a lone starship pilot as you take on an endless onslaught of enemies. To be honest, you know how these survival-style roguelikes go. They are all pretty much the same. Shoot down enemies, earn experience, choose an upgrade, get stronger, and survive as long as possible. Cosmic Survival is pretty much the same thing. But what I liked about this game is that there seems to be a never ending amount of unique upgrades. I’ve had like 10 upgrades stacked during a run and was still seeing new upgrades pop up! As you keep playing, you will earn currency that you can use to purchase new ships with their own unique stats. Cosmic Survival may not bring a whole lot new to the survival genre, but it’s a solid game that’s fun to master. My biggest issue is that there’s not a whole lot to play for. You can unlock 4 new ships, but after that you’re just playing for a high score (with no leaderboards). I would’ve liked to have seen a few more ships or some sort of permanent upgrades. Regardless, if you’re looking for a new survival game to kill some time with, Cosmic Survival is worth checking out.
