Apex Battle is a survival-style defense game that was recently released on the App Store by Assist Entertainment. There’s not a whole lot to this game. There’s no story, no theme, it uses generic low poly assets, and the UI is pretty basic. What makes this game noteworthy is its actual gameplay. At first glance, Apex Battle plays like your typical survival game. You take on waves of multiple enemies while choosing one of three upgrades in between levels. Rinse and repeat until you eventually die. But as you progress, you’ll earn coins that you will use to purchase defense-style objects. These can be snipers, machine gunners, walls, and more. Then before the next level (day), you’ll set up your newly purchased objects on the playing field to help you get through the next wave. It’s a cool concept that adds a bit of depth to the overly saturated survival genre. There’s also a Sandbox Mode that you can unlock to create your own scenarios. Apex Battle definitely isn’t perfect, but it’s still a fun little concept. It would be nice to see this mechanic used with a bunch of polish. Regardless, if you’re looking for something new. This one is worth checking out.
