XP Racing is a pixel art racing game that was recently released on the App Store by developer David Alvarez (Dave XP). The game is a love letter to the classic top-down racing games on the NES. Before you start, you can choose one of 8 racers and a vehicle to drive. From there, you’ve got two options. Tournament has you racing the AI across 4 differently themed tracks. Time Trial is just you on the track racing against the clock. XP Racing is a difficult game, but a lot of fun if you grew up playing these games back in the day. Unfortunately, the game lacks content. With only 4 tracks and 4 vehicles, things get pretty repetitive. You can unlock the entire game for $1.99 giving you an extra 6 vehicles and paint jobs, but it’s still not enough to keep you busy. XP Racing is still a lot of fun for what it is. I think the developer nailed it with the vehicle handling, controls, track layout, you name it! But the game just left me wanting more in the end. Regardless, if you’re a fan of classic racing games, XP Racing is a really fun (but short) game.
