(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
ClickTV is a pixel art Metroidvania that was recently released on the App Store by developer Foxide Games. The game has you controlling your character that’s trapped in a television set by using the TV’s remote control. It’s a really unique concept that unfortunately isn’t executed very well. Your character auto-moves from point to point while you tap on the screen to perform actions. When your character reaches an electrical outlet, you need to choose which special action you want your character to perform for the next run. So, it’s all about picking the right move set and tapping on the screen at the right time once your character starts moving. It’s not a bad mechanic by any means. It’s just not very fun. Like I said, I absolutely love the whole TV/remote concept, I just think that there could’ve been a little more to it. It’s also a bit tough to see everything when playing on an iPhone. With everything shrunken down to fit inside a television, things get pretty cramped and small. ClickTV isn’t a bad game as much as it’s just a missed opportunity. It’s still playable (albeit a bit difficult) and may be fun for some. I just recommend playing it on an iPad if you have one available.
