Zombie West is a 2D roguelike that was recently released on the App Store by Ukrainian developer Play!Chocolate. The game has you controlling a rootin’ tootin’ cowboy as you take on waves of zombies in a post apocalyptic Wild West. Now, there are tons of these types of games on the App Store already. So, I was hesitant about this one. But, Zombie West is actually a pretty solid survival-style game! The single joystick/auto-shoot mechanics work well, but I absolutely love the game’s visual style. The 2D artwork looks like you are playing a cartoon. Unfortunately, Zombie West doesn’t bring a whole lot new to the table. There are the usual missions to complete, bosses to fight, and gear to upgrade like in most survival roguelikes. I will say ammo conservation is something I haven’t really seen in these games. But, what Zombie West does, it does well. The game has a ton of charm and isn’t constantly pressuring you to purchase something. Of course, IAPs are there, but they aren’t forced down your throat. So, if you’re a fan of these survival-style games, Zombie West is definitely worth checking out.
