Spooky Pixel Hero iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Spooky Pixel Hero is a 2D platformer and developer AppSir’s newest title to hit the App Store. In this game, you take on the role of a young developer that is tasked by a secret organization to repair a lost platformer from 1976 due to some suspicious coding. It’s a really cool concept that mixes very well with the gameplay. At its core, SPH is a hardcore downward platformer. You start at the top of the level and try to reach the doors at the bottom. I made it through the first 30 or so levels without too much resistance, but things ramped up fairly quickly after that. I found myself cussing up a storm and wanting to throw my phone with every new level I got to. As you progress (and without spoiling too much), you’ll start to repair code and learn more of the story and why you are there. I’ve had a lot of fun with this newest title so far. The level design is really well done, the story is engaging, and most of all, it’s entertaining. It’s no surprise that Spooky Pixel Hero is yet another pixel art gem released by this developer. And I’m not going out on a limb when I say that AppSir is pretty much the Hideo Kojima of mobile games. They can be misunderstood by some, but they are always pushing the boundaries and trying something unique with each and every title. So, yea. Spooky Pixel Hero definitely gets the SNAPP seal of approval.
