Zombaaa iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Zombaaa is a pixel art survival roguelike that was recently released on the App Store by developer Ilya Smirnov. It’s a simple game that has you taking on waves of zombies for as long as possible. Now, I’ll be the first to say that this genre is way too oversaturated at the moment. Every week there are a new crop of games like these that pop up. Zombaaa is a little different though. Before each level, you will use the money that you earned to purchase everything from TNT blocks, mines, turrets, walls, and more that you can use to set traps and pretty much build whatever you want. It’s really satisfying when things come together and you are killing dozens of zombies from the traps that you created. As you progress, you’ll also choose power-ups that’ll help you get further each run. Zombaaa is a lot of fun, but it’s far from perfect. Outside of experiencing a couple crashes, the game is very limited with extras. It’s kind of a one-trick-pony. Although the gameplay is a lot of fun, once you die it’s “game over”. There are no permanent upgrades, no new characters to unlock, nothing to really keep you playing outside of a handful of times. That’s Zombaaa’s biggest downfall. But, if you’re looking for something fun to play, Zombaaa is a lot of fun while it lasts.
