Risko: Shepherd’s Leap iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Risko: Shepherd’s Leap is an endless platformer that was recently released on the App Store by Daydream Software. The game has you taking on the role of a shepherd in the Canary Islands as you descend the mountains with only your staff. Risko really took me by surprise. First off, the game is absolutely beautiful. Each procedurally generated landscape looks gorgeous against the black shadows of the mountains. But, Risko’s charm comes from its unique gameplay mechanic. Your main goal is to descend as far as possible. You do this by jumping down mountains and using your staff to slow your momentum. It takes a little while to get the hang of things, but once the mechanics clicked with me, I absolutely loved it. As you progress, you’ll earn coins that you can use to purchase new cosmetics for your shepherd. I’ve really been enjoying Risko so far. It’s just a really unique game about a cool tradition that I never even heard of. The game gives you 3 different modes. A Time Attack mode, Survival mode (my favorite), and a Relax mode that unlocks when you purchase the full game. I highly recommend buying the full game seeing how the free version only gives you 5 runs before you have to wait for the timer. So, if you’re looking for something a little different, definitely check out Risko: Shepherd’s Leap!
