(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Trail Blaze is a level based maze-style game that was recently released on the App Store by the newer team at Mooner. The game has you basically rolling a ball through a maze while the camera is in constant motion. The object is to get to the end of the level without falling behind the camera’s line of sight. It’s a simple concept that’s done very well. The 2.5D minimalist visuals play a huge part in Trail Blaze’s zen-like feel. As you progress, you’ll learn new abilities and pick up coins that you can use to purchase new skins and color schemes. I’ve been really digging Trail Blaze so far. The level design is well thought out and the controls are pretty tight. That brings me to my only real gripe with the game. Unfortunately, the controls aren’t set up for us southpaws. With your ability buttons on the left hand side of the screen, left handed people have to lift their thumb off of the v-stick to use them. This can make some levels really frustrating. I’ve been playing right handed, but it’s just not super comfortable. Regardless, Trail Blaze is a fun little game with enough content to keep you busy for a while. If you’re a fan of puzzles or maze-style game, Trail Blaze is worth checking out.
