El Paso, Elsewhere iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

El Paso, Elsewhere is a supernatural third person shooter by Strange Scaffold that was recently released on the App Store under the Frosty Pops publishing umbrella. The game has you playing as James Savage. A relapsed addict that is trying to stop his vampire ex-girlfriend’s evil plot to destroy the world. It’s a crazy story that gets better with every word spoken. As far as gameplay goes, EPE pays homage to games of the past like the original Max Paine. Slow motion shooting, destructible objects, and of course, tons of guns! I honestly couldn’t put my phone down once I fired this game up. El Paso, Elsewhere is a masterpiece! From the beautiful PS1-style visuals, to the engaging story, and finally the heart pounding soundtrack. I will say that the game can feel a bit cramped when playing on an iPhone. You have 7 different buttons packed on the screen, along with your joystick and a weapon slider. It’s a lot of stuff to fit onto a small space. Thankfully things don’t take up too much screen real estate. The game is definitely enjoyable on a smaller device, but if you have the option to play on an iPad or AppleTV, I’d definitely recommend it. Regardless, El Paso, Elsewhere is a MUST HAVE for anybody that’s into mobile gaming. And for $4.99 USD, it’s a steal!
