(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Shooty Seas is a top-down adventure RPG that was recently released on the App Store by Boned Studios. The game has you taking control of a pirate captain as you explore and plunder the seas looking for booty. You know. The usual pirate stuff. I’ve actually been having a lot of fun with Shooty Seas so far. The controls are fairly simplistic with your ship automatically shooting at the nearest enemy while you just steer the boat. Although there is a campaign and mission structure, you can kind of do whatever you want. Explore the map and look for treasures, take over islands, and so much more. As you progress, you’ll earn EXP and currency that you can use to upgrade your ship or buy new ones. You’ll also need to repair your ship from time to time which can be done on certain islands and repair boats. Shooty Seas isn’t perfect by any means. It’s a bit rough around the edges, there are long loading times, and I’ve even encountered a couple freezes here and there. And of course m with the game being free to play, there are the usual IAPs and multiple currencies to deal with. Regardless, I’m still having a lot of fun with this game. There just aren’t enough pirate games on the App Store and Shooty Seas definitely fills that void.
