(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Professor Doctor Jetpack is a physics-based lunar lander-style game that was recently released on the App Store by Roflcopter Inc. The game has you taking control of Billy Bob Danger as you strap on a jetpack given to you by a holographic Albert Einstein. The object is to try to make your way from point A to point B in 85 different caverns filled with traps and enemies. I fell in love with PDJ almost as soon as I fired the game up. The writing is really witty with some of the most gorgeous pixel art I’ve seen on mobile in awhile. The game’s main focus is on its level design and physics. I’ll be the first to say that this game is tough as hell! I found myself dying multiple times before completing each level. You control your jetpack with a single joystick while dodging obstacles and keeping an eye on your fuel. It seems easy at first, but once you get past the first few starter levels, the game almost feels like it’s trying to make you cry. That’s all part of Professor Doctor Jetpack’s charm. There’s an easier mode in the options, but I found the challenge to be more fun. As you progress, you’ll earn coins that you can use to upgrade your jetpack or purchase new ones. I’ve been having a blast with PDJ so far. It’s great to see games like this still releasing on mobile. If you’re looking for something new to play this weekend, I highly recommend checking this one out!
Professor Doctor Jetpack is also in this week’s SNAPP Roundup!
