(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Ranger Quest is a roguelike tower defense-style game that was recently released on the App Store by new developer Slakkedis Studio. The game has you playing as a Woodland Ranger (at first) as you take on hordes of enemy monsters while trying to survive as long as possible. Ranger Quest is more of an idle game when it comes to mechanics. Your character auto-shoots as you use your coins collected to upgrade your stats. At first glance, Ranger Quest seemed pretty lackluster to me. I’ve played tons of idle games and this was fairly similar. What changed my mind is in the details. Good or bad, the game lets you figure things out for yourself. After playing a few rounds and pressing some buttons, I figured out how deep things can get. Ranger Quest really doesn’t open up until you’ve played for a while and start to level up your character. There’s tons of things to tweak and upgrade as you progress. Ranger Quest is actually a pretty solid roguelike if you give it some time. There’s no timers, no IAPs, and no forced ads. It’s actually a pretty honest game! So, if you’re a fan of idle games or just want something to grind on, Ranger Quest is definitely worth checking out!
