(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Rocklings Empire is a pixel art clicker-style game that was recently released on the App Store by Lumid Labs. The game has you leading a colony of “Rocklings” as you click your way to building a civilization from the ground up. First thing that I’ll say is that while doing some research on this game, I noticed that there was a bit of drama earlier in the year about the developer copying a Steam game called The Gnorp Apologue and I will say that the two games look VERY similar. But, on RE’s title screen it gives props to the Steam game and even links it. So, I can only assume everything is kosher between the two developers. Now that that’s out of the way, Rocklings Empire is actually a solid little clicker. You’re basically tapping on a big rock and converting it into resources. As you progress, you’ll add more rocklings and upgrade them to make your work a little easier. You know how these games go. It’s all about clicking and upgrading. What’s cool about this game is all the unique characters and talents that you can unlock. Rocklings Empire is a pretty solid game with a decent amount of depth. Even though the UI is a bit small on the iPhone and there is a thumb numbing amount of tapping involved, it’s still worth checking out if you’re a fan of the genre. I just hope the dev of the original game is cool with everything.
Rocklings Empire is also in this week’s SNAPP Roundup!
