Shape Hanter is a 2D survival-style action game that was recently released on the App Store by Japanese developer Nishino Shunsuke. It’s a pretty basic wave-based roguelike where you are met with unlimited waves of enemies. In between waves, you’ll pick one of three upgrades, rinse and repeat until you die. What’s unique about this game is the fact that you can’t actually control your character. You can only attack. Using your spear will actually move your character while using the bow will keep you stationary. It takes awhile to get used to, but once you get the hang of things, you can get pretty far. Shape Hanter is one of those games that is almost there. The mechanics work well and the visuals look good. But there’s not much to the game besides chasing a high score. There’s a ranking system within the game, but that only goes so far. Shape Hanter is still worth checking out. Just don’t expect a whole lot outside of a high score.
