Ferryman From Hades iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Ferryman From Hades is a pixel art roguelike that was recently released on the App Store by indie developer Alexey Bolotov. The game has you playing as a lone ferryman that’s forever transporting souls in Hell. Each run is randomly generated as your character auto-shoots while you control the boat. As you earn experience, you’ll pick different upgrades for that run. You know the whole “survival-style” roguelike mechanic by now. I’ll be honest. I wasn’t very impressed with this game in the beginning. It’s very bare-bones. There’s no story, no tutorial. Hell, there’s not even a title screen. Not to mention, there’s very little gameplay outside of moving your boat up and down…….BUT, as I kept playing, I found myself learning a little more with each run. Like picking up and dropping off people will earn you money that you can use in the shop at the harbor. Or as you play, you’ll earn experience for permanent upgrades and perks that you can build up. The game just doesn’t do a good job explaining anything to you. Ferryman From Hades definitely isn’t the greatest roguelike out there. It’s very repetitive with each run looking like the last. I haven’t even seen any sort of bosses or special enemies yet. But, I do give the game some credit for being unique. It’s got a great theme and a very good upgrade system. It just needs a little something to break up the monotony. Regardless, if you’re a fan of the genre, Ferryman From Hades is still worth checking out.
