Bella Wants Blood is a roguelike tower defense game that was recently released on the App Store by Sonderland Games. Bella is a creature that needs the blood of monstrosities to survive. At its core, BWB is a tower defense game. You start off with a handful of gutters (pathway pieces) and a couple terrors (weapons) and create a path towards Bella. In between waves, you can choose where you want to go on a roguelike-style level tree. Depending on your choices, you will earn new gutters, terrors, and mementos (upgrades). The object is to keep building up your defenses and keep Bella safe for as long as possible. BWB has a great gameplay loop with tons of different things to unlock. There’s quite a bit of strategy involved and a bit of luck doesn’t hurt. I really liked the overall vibe of this game. The unique art style and dark tone sets things apart from other games in the genre. My only issue is that there wasn’t a big feeling of progression in the game. There are no permanent unlocks until you beat the game. Regardless, Bella Wants Blood is a bloody good time and well worth checking out if you’re a fan of tower defense games or roguelikes.
