Steel Revolt iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Steel Revolt is a side-scrolling arena shooter that was recently released on the App Store by new developer Pantelis Ioannou. The game has you taking on waves of rogue robots to collect their bounties. Steel Revolt looks a little too “simple” at first glance. I almost passed it off as just another F2P hyper-casual game. Luckily, I decided to give it a shot! The gameplay is silky smooth as you fly around the arena while popping off enemies and collecting power-ups. The controls feel pretty tight and the physics feel nice and weighty. What makes this game unique is your AI companion. Once you build him (or her?) they will follow along during each level. As you progress, you’ll earn intelligence points that you can use to give their AI brain new abilities. This starts off by giving them the ability of basic movement and talking, then progresses to things like reaction time and shooting. In between levels your robot will talk to you giving you multiple choice answers which can earn you more/less points and even turn them against you it looks like. Steel Revolt is a really solid arena shooter with lots of things to unlock and upgrade. Apparently it’s in Early Access at the moment, so I’m sure there will be some changes as it gets updated. But, in its current state, it’s a lot of fun and well worth checking out!

Steel Revolt is also in this week’s SNAPP Roundup!
