(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Doomfields is a roguelike auto-battler that was recently released on the App Store by developer Kacper Jankowski. The game has you managing a crew of fighters as you make your way through procedurally generated dungeons. I’ve been playing this game off and on for the past month or so and have a love/hate relationship with it. As far as gameplay goes, it’s actually pretty fun. You’re basically managing your fighter/s in between levels. The game gets pretty deep too! You’re upgrading abilities, weapons, armor, special moves, and a ton more. As you progress through the dungeons, you’ll pick up new fighters, deal with special events, and more. Things can get pretty deep when you start getting multiple fighters on your team. My biggest issue is that there is no save function. Runs can get pretty long at times and unfortunately, if you shut the game down, you have to start over. I’ve lost progress several times due to……well, life happening. Doomfields may be a little rough around the edges. The visuals may be primitive and the UI is super small, but it’s got a lot of potential and the developer is constantly updating and improving things. If you’re a fan of auto-battlers, Doomfields is definitely worth checking out. Just make sure you put away some time to play it.
