(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time/money.)
Draw Chilly is a pixel art action-arcade game by indie developer, Azamatika. You play as Vladimir. A deceased human that is trying to raise a small city out of purgatory at the request of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It’s a crazy story with even crazier gameplay. It’s a hardcore button-masher where you are constantly fighting off waves of psycho monkeys that are trying to stop you. I absolutely love the sense of humor and imagination behind this game. It’s fast, frantic, and there is so much going on at once. There’s also a bit of depth to Draw Chilly. You can upgrade Vladimir himself, different abilities, and quite a bit more. Unfortunately, I wish the controls were a little better. The on-screen buttons are pretty small (even on the biggest setting). This makes things a bit cramped on the iPhone. I found myself accidentally hitting different buttons when I didn’t want to. Luckily, the game plays pretty well in 2X mode on the iPad. And if you have an MFI controller, it plays like a dream! Regardless of these minor issues, Draw Chilly is an excellent game with quite a bit of content. You’d be doing yourself a disservice by not picking this game up.
Draw Chilly is also in this week’s iOS Roundup!
