Minit iOS SNAPP REVIEW!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full-fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether or not it’s worth your time/money.)

Minit is an adventure game by Jan Willem Nijman, Kitty Calis, Jukio Kallio, Dominik Johann, and developed by Devolver Digital set in a world where you control a character who looks strikingly like a duck. The game doesn’t starts with a long epic tale or dramatic exposition explaining the fate of the world. No, the story starts with your little duck character in a house. You move around and eventually make your way outside and then, after some light exploring, you find a sword on a beach. The sword is cursed, and once you pick it up the title of this game makes a lot more sense (even if it’s not spelled correctly.) What do you do with that sword? Maybe cut down the bushes blocking your path earlier. Now you find other citizens of this world looking for things and asking for help. Maybe you come across a small cafe and the man behind the counter gives you a cup of coffee and now you have the strength to move boxes. In the meantime, as you are progressing, you are probably dying. You only have 60 seconds to do these things. The game has a rogue-lite spin to it as you keep the new items when you die and respawn in your house. I’ve been playing Minit for a few hours now and I went from mildly curious to utterly obsessed. The retro graphics are something even before the days of the 8-bit NES but work perfectly in this weirdly chaotic world. The game has seen prior releases on home consoles and PC but has been a perfect experience on my iPhone. Check this game out if you’re into quirky adventure games.
