(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Diesel Express Mobile is actually kind of a spinoff by Lazylab Games of their PC VR game called Diesel Express VR. The premise is pretty much the same. It’s set in an alternate time-period post WWII where nuclear attacks drastically changed the earth’s climate and now only transportation is by railroad. Your job is to protect these trains and their contents. The game plays out like a side scrolling shooter with enemies pulling up alongside the train while you try to gun them down. Controls are pretty smooth with a v-stick to aim and a single button to shoot. Letting off the stick let’s your character drop behind cover to heal. If you die or the train gets hit enough, it’s game over. I’ll say that the game is a bit tough at first. You only have a couple of pistols to start with. You can purchase new and more powerful weapons and characters with the money that you earn. Diesel Express Mobile is actually a really fun game that slipped under the radar for a lot of people. My only real issue is that it feels like it takes forever to earn money and the weapons are expensive. So, unfortunately there’s a lot of grinding involved. Regardless, Diesel Express is a cool little spinoff that’s definitely worth checking out.
Diesel Express Mobile is also in this week’s iOS Roundup!
