(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Dual Souls: The Last Bearer is a 2D fighting game that recently released on the App Store by Stun Games. As you can tell by the screenshots, Dual Souls is a 1vs1 fighter that pays homage to fighting games of the past. Everything from the characters to the button mashing. That’s not to take anything away from the game itself. Dual Souls is a purely unique game with it’s own lore and moves. Each character has their own backstory and special move set. I was honestly surprised at how deep this game actually is. You can tell that the developer was a big fan of games like Street Fighter. Hell, it took me 20 minutes just making my way through the tutorial! There’s so many moves to master! The on-screen controls are smooth and work really well. Of course, it’s a hardcore fighting game, so touchscreen controls aren’t ideal, but they get the job done. I played a bit with an MFI controller and although I had to remap everything due to a bug, it was well worth it playing with physical buttons. There’s a ton of different fight modes in the game. There’s missions, boss battles, combo challenges, and more. There were only 3 people playing online, so I wasn’t able to test the cross-platform online mode. (It’s on Steam also.) From the looks of it, there’s a decent little following on the game’s Discord with fun things like “Replays of the Week”. You only get a taste of things unless you pony up 10 bucks for the full game unlock. But, if you’re a fan of fighting games, I’d say it’s worth it. Dual Souls is a solid 2D fighter with a lot of heart.
Dual Souls: The Last Bearer is also in this week’s iOS Roundup!
