(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
NullStar is a retro-style auto-runner by the team at Pizza Blade Games. You control an unnamed hero that is on a mission to unlock their full powers and discover the mysteries behind them. I’ve really been digging this game so far. It’s one of those games that seem simple on the surface, but actually has layers of depth to it. Each wave will have you shooting X amount of enemies until you finally meet up with a boss. Beating that boss will grant you a new power. I will say that NullStar is tough at times…….REALLY tough. It’s got some roguelike/permadeath elements to it, so when you die, you’ve got to start all the way at the beginning again. Luckily, you get to keep any powers that you unlocked previously. NullStar is an absolute gem that really needs to be checked out. It’s retro-style visuals complete with CRT scan lines and chunky pixel art complement the catchy chiptune soundtrack by Saskrotch. NullStar is free with zero ads or IAPs, so there’s absolutely no reason why this game shouldn’t be on your device right now.
NullStar is also in this week’s iOS Roundup!
