Bento Bugs iOS SNAPP Review!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Bento Bugs is a GameJam game that was built in 72 hours by four developers for the Ludum Dare 56 competition. The game has you killing off bugs as they try to steal your food. It’s a simple game where you swipe over the bugs to kill them and hold your finger over the goo that they leave behind to collect it. Bento Bugs is basically just a high-score chaser where the object is to kill as many bugs as possible before your food is all eaten up. I’ve actually been really enjoying this game as simple as it is though. As you progress, you’ll turn in your goo to upgrade your finger blade, add more food to the table, the addition of more bugs to each run, and more. Bugs come in different shapes and sizes adding a bit of a challenge with each try. Bento Bugs is a surprisingly fun little game. Especially for it being developed so quickly. My only real issue is that the game will close out when you start swiping a lot of bugs due to your finger hitting the white line at the bottom of the screen. That’s an Apple issue though. GameCenter leaderboards would’ve been a cool addition too. But, for a GameJam game, Bento Bugs is really solid and definitely worth checking out. Also, congrats to the team for Bento Bugs being this year’s winner!
