(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Knights of Pen and Paper 3 is a turn-based RPG and the third installment in the series by Paradox Interactive/Northica. For those of you that haven’t played the first two games, Knights of Pen and Paper is a role playing game that plays similar to the old table top games like Dungeons & Dragons. It’s all about rolling the dice and seeing where the adventure takes you. The best part of these games is the writing. There’s a lot of fourth wall breaking and witty dialogue throughout the entire game. This time around, KoPaP3 seems to up the ante on just about everything. The pixel art is a lot better looking, there are side quests, dungeons, and a whole lot more. The game is all about grinding and upgrading your gear. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Knights 3 so far. The game fits perfectly for mobile. But, I guess my biggest concern is it’s monetization. Now, it’s been a while since I played the first two games, but if I’m not mistaken, both were paid games. With this one being free to play, there are quite a few IAPs for gear sets and gem bundles. I’m still fairly early in the game, so I haven’t had any issues with currency. But, I’m starting to notice that Rudimentary Books (you need them to upgrade skills) are getting few and far between. The only other way to upgrade is to use the premium currency (gems). So, there’s always that worry. Either way, Knights of Pen and Paper 3 is the best game of the series. There’s tons of quests, challenges, and things to upgrade. It’s just a solid turn-based RPG that’s definitely worth checking out.
