(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
You don’t see new racing games released on the App Store very often. So, I was pretty excited when I saw this one pop up. Junkyard Rush Racing is an arcade racing game by isTom Games. JRR puts you against 5 other drivers as you race across forest roads, dusty junkyards, sandy deserts, and more. Tracks are well thought out and full of details. The regular tournament has you racing your opponent in standard races, time trial, and elimination races. In between runs, you can use the currency you’ve earned to upgrade your vehicle, paint it, add new rims, and even body kits. As far as the driving itself goes, vehicles behave smoothly albeit a little tight at times. The track lengths are long with all sorts of obstacles to get in your way. I’ve been having a lot of fun with JRR so far. There’s tons of content with 12 different tracks, 16 vehicles to unlock and upgrade, boosts, and more. My only big issue is the on-screen controls. They work fine enough, but are too cramped to where I end up hitting the camera button all the time. It would’ve been nice to have had the ability to move buttons around. And of course, the game is free-to-play, so you’ll have to deal with two different currencies and a little bit of grinding. Regardless, Junkyard Rush Racing is a solid arcade racing game that definitely needs to be checked out if you’re a fan of the genre!
