(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
End of the Living is an apocalyptic-style defense game that was recently released on the App Store by developer DifficĂĽlt Studios. The game is set after a plague that took over and destroyed The Metropolis. You play as one of the few survivors that are left as you defend your base from hordes of zombies. The main gameplay loop has you controlling a turret as you aim at incoming zombies. The controls are simply holding your thumb over each enemy until they are killed. You need to keep an eye on reloads and not overheating your gun with ads a bit of suspense to each level. In between runs, you can use the money that you earned to upgrade your base, turret, and purchase new guns. The upgrade system is actually fairly deep with all sorts of things to beef up your gear. End of the Living is surprisingly really well done. It’s got an intriguing story, a fairly deep campaign, and a gritty pixel art style. Now, I will say that I’ve run across a couple issues so far. The text is in English, but the voice acting is in (I think) Russian, the game tends to crash when going back to your bunker after a run, and the aiming could use some tweaking in my opinion (I felt like my thumb was covering most of the action). They aren’t game-breaking bugs, but definitely need to be addressed. The game is apparently in early access at the moment, so I’m sure all of that will eventually be ironed out. Regardless of these issues, End of the Living is still a helluva lot of fun! It’s a really solid defense game with quite a bit of content packed in. If you’re a fan of the genre, I highly recommend checking it out!Â
End of the Living is also in this week’s SNAPP Roundup!

They once called it The Metropolis. A beacon of ambition, a monument to human progress. Towers of glass and steel rose to the heavens, until the shadows came from beneath. Then the breakout came… The infected swept through the streets…
