(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)

Elemental World is an action-adventure roguelike RPG that was recently released on the App Store. The game has you controlling an unnamed mage as you…….I don’t know, save the world? That’s kind of the problem with Elemental World. It has no personality. At its core, EW isn’t a bad game. You make your way through dungeons killing baddies while using elemental attacks. So, if you’re up against a fire monster, you’ll use your water attack. If you’re up against a water monster, you’ll use your fire attack, and so on. There’s also some unique puzzle elements like freezing water or burning grass to get into different areas. As I said before, Elemental World isn’t a “bad” game on paper. There’s lots of upgrades and new spells to unlock, there are multiple classes to choose from, and the maps are randomly generated to keep you on your toes. Unfortunately, I just found the game kind of boring. There’s no real story to follow along with, the characters are pretty bland, the overall experience just feels very generic. Elemental World is a decent grindfest as long as you go in not expecting anything more.
