(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really full-fledged game reviews as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. Usually we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know if it’s worth your time or money.)
Halfbrick has been trying a lot of new stuff lately. Gone are the days of paying a couple bucks for a game and just enjoying it. (Novel idea right?) Since then, Halfbrick has locked most of their games behind the Halfbrick+ subscription service. Now, things have changed again with them recently releasing Monster Dash Lite on the App Store. MDL is basically a complete overhaul of the original Monster Dash game that I loved so much. To those who’ve never played the original, Monster Dash was a simple endless runner about shooting zombies and staying alive. It didn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it was a helluva lot of fun regardless. MDL still has that same vibe going on, but has added so much more. Besides the obvious visuals upgrade, there is now a new Mission Mode added on top of the original Arcade Mode. The biggest addition is the new loadout screen. This is where you can upgrade Barry and unlock all sorts of new weapons and power-ups. All in all, Monster Dash Lite is a solid recreation of the original game. Of course, it’s Free to Play now, so there are a couple different currencies and a whole slew of IAPs, but no play timers and thankfully no subscription service. I’m not sure if this is the new route that Halfbrick is going or if they are just testing the waters with this kind of monetization structure. But either way, I’m really liking what I’m seeing!
Monster Dash Lite is also in this week’s SNAPP Roundup!
