Boom Pilot iOS SNAPP REVIEW!

(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full-fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether or not it’s worth your time/money.)

Boom Pilot is a top-down shoot ‘em up (shmup) where you control a plane battling enemies and avoiding obstacles. The game is developed by Oddrok, who you may know as the creator of Power Hover, HeliHopper, and the more recent Glitch Run. What separates Boom Pilot from all the other shmups out there is it’s look. It’s a charmingly cute presentation and has this feel like it could be a Nintendo revamp of the classic 1942 series. Something accessible to the masses in challenge and it’s cartoony look. If I could say one negative thing some might find about the Boom Pilot it is that it’s not hard. But, for me, that’s actually a good thing. I usually don’t last long with these sorts of games but Boom Pilot was just approachable enough I enjoyed even the harder levels. The plane has a good floaty feel that lets you zip around the screen with no noticeable lag. The game is free to play with the usual in-app purchases that help disable ads and purchase coins that can be used to upgrade your ship or buy a different plane skin. I actually made it through the entire game without having to spend any money but I did watch an ad or two to help boost my coins. If you’re a fan of shoot ‘em ups or cautiously optimistic about the genre, I highly recommend picking up Boom Pilot and giving it a try.
